The Monarch's lightweight design not only delivers silky smooth travel, but thanks to a redesigned Solo Air spring with updated damping controls, it also delivers a spring rate you'd generally only get from a much heavier coil shock. So you get a durable, fully adjustable shock capable of smoothing out the most aggressive trails, while simultaneously saving you weight for epic cross country riding. The Monarch R feature external rebound adjustment.
  • Fast Black hard anodized, forged aluminum body with sag gradients
  • R shocks feature external rebound adjustment, Solo Air lets you add air to your shock through a single Schrader valve, filling both the positive and negative air spring chambers simultaneously. This gives you a plush, predictable ride you can set up in seconds, with the lightest weight air spring on the market
  • 9mm 7075 aluminum shaft
  • Rapid Recovery allows the shock to recovery faster between consecutive bumps, letting the wheel track the ground with greater precision
  • Mount hardware sold separately (2 sets required per shock)
  • Intended Use: XC, Trail

I originally gave this a 1 star review because they picture the RL that locks out and I got the R. Doesn't matter really because i never use a lock out. And you WILL have to get mounting hardware or use what you have on an an existing shock.

HOWEVER I am now giving this shock a 5 star review. Got this as a backup to use while FOX Float Factory DPS is being repaired. That's a $479 shock. Rode the RockShox Monarch R today and was REALLY impressed with how it felt! I've been MTBing 30 years and hammer single track pretty hard. Cant speak to longevity of this shock yet but the 18 miles i hammered it today if felt amazing.

I also got a Rockshox Recon Silver fork to put on a backup bike thinking it would feel like junk because it was $289. Nope. Actually feels as good as the $1000 fork I replaced! Probably have 500 or so miles on it with no problems.

Impressed with performance of these low-prices Rockshox products;

I thought I was ordering a Monarch RL but what I got in the mail was the Monarch R. The picture on Amazon is of the RL not the R. This is somewhat deceptive. Read the fine print I guess buyer beware. Three stars because of the somewhat deceptive practice in my opinion. The "R" version of the Shock works fine for my bike luckily so I'll live with it...;

Although I didn’t buy this shock on Amazon it came stock on my 2017 diamondback atroz comp and it handles amazingly on any terrain I throw at it. It’s incredibly lightweight and is very easy to use as well.;
