Crafted from high-quality aluminum and sustainable bamboo, this rear rack offers a perfect blend of eco-friendly materials and innovative engineering, making it an essential addition to any urban commuter, touring cyclist, or cargo enthusiast.

Materials & Construction

Constructed with a lightweight yet robust aluminum frame combined with a double ply bamboo platform, the Everyday Rack ensures strength and durability while maintaining a sleek, natural aesthetic. The bamboo deck measures 8.25 x 3 inches (209 x 76 mm), providing a sturdy base for carrying gear, panniers, or cargo. Its eco-conscious bamboo top balances style and sustainability, offering an attractive, lightweight surface rated to carry up to 55 lbs (25 kg).

Performance & Engineering

Designed to accommodate bikes without eyelets, the Portland Design Works Everyday Rear Rack features included clamps for easy installation on frames without seat stay mounts. Its tapered bamboo platform provides a race-inspired look, subtly sloped for improved aerodynamics and bike aesthetics. The lower mounting bars help center panniers closer to the wheel's center of gravity, enhancing rear stability and handling, even when hauling heavy loads or traveling over rough terrain.

Components & Technology

This rear rack is disc brake compatible, providing seamless integration with modern braking systems for a safer, more reliable ride. The aluminum construction ensures lightweight performance without sacrificing strength, and the bamboo deck adds a natural shock-absorbing quality to support your cargo securely. Rated to support weights up to 55 pounds, it's ideal for commuting, grocery runs, bikepacking, or cargo cycling.

I love the slept back mount design both for working around top-mounted disc brakes and for moving your load farther back for avoiding heel-strike. The rack also seems very solid.

Unfortunately like many rear-racks it was made to be only barely big enough for a 700c wheel. Despite the fender having attachment points for rear fenders they definitely won't fit. Beyond the rack being pretty low the attachments for the bars that connect to the seat-stay drop-down even further. Some racks get around this by making those attachments far enough apart that a fender will fit between them but on this rack they are very close to each other.

The bars for attaching to the seat-stays were a bit short for my bike. I think they would have fit (I returned it so I didn't actually screw it on) but it would have been close. It would have been nicer for them to be a bit longer but on bikes with smaller wheels they are probably long enough.;

I'd seen the PDW Loading Dock and Payload racks but I went for the Everyday rack since it's a little smaller and lighter. I also like the slightly more angular design.

Overall it's been great. Installation was a breeze with the included hardware. Even the small nuts and bolts were high-quality and I was glad to see that P-clamps are included for mounting to frames without eyelets. The frame I mounted this to has eyelets but I'm seriously considering getting another one for a second bike.

Mounting things to the rack has been similarly straightforward. I use a standard pannier that goes on pretty easily. I also like having the mounting bars available and slightly below the deck since it makes it really easy to use bungee cords. I usually sling bungees around those mounting bars rather than having to stretch a long cord all the way down to the axle like you have to do with most racks.;
