These are the only decent-quality cycling shorts made in children's sizes and available to children in the United States. They are sturdy and well-made with a good amount of padding. My son has had a pair for more than two years and wore them for over 3000 miles of riding and maybe two dozen road and off-road races. Finally they became slightly threadbare in the seat so I ordered him a new pair. Based on the size chart I thought he could go up a size (to a children's large) but when we received the large shorts they were very big and we had to return them and order him the same size he had before--a children's medium. Keep in mind that he was barely nine years old when he got his first pair and now at age eleven and a half he has his second medium pair. He's about average size for his age certainly fit but not nearly as skinny as some other preteen cyclists. So I don't think you'd need a size large except for children who are either older or rather chubby in the thighs and/or rear. I also bought a pair for my 9-year-old daughter (girls' version--identical except for the color of the chamois). She is average height but very thin and a size small fits her perfectly. We initially ordered an XS based on the size chart but it seemed the right size for a skinny kindergarten-age child. The chamois for the XS shorts seemed disproportionately large so I doubt those would work well even for a very small child.;

Son races mountain bikes and wears these on race day. If you want a sleek fit you may want to size down. Great quality stands up to washing and racing. They stay in place when racing.;

Do these seem expensive for a pair of kid's cycling shorts? Well yeah they kind of are. However these shorts changed my son's opinion of cycling. We're a fairly serious family of cyclists and the little one would always complain that his hind end hurt during rides. He was in pain and I was equally miserable due to the incessant whining. I had purchased him cheaper kids' cycling shorts but the padding was not as high of quality. I bought him his first pair of these when he was 7 and have never looked back. The padding on these is similar in construction to a high end pair of adult shorts. He now owns THREE of these and wears them to race USAC road races on long 2 hour gravel rides you name it. These are a great investment in you and your kid's happiness. ;-);

My 13yo road biker LOVES these shorts. Before the LG Request Promax Jr he refused to wear bike shorts -- but these he will wear. Aside from the overall (high) quality of LG we're not entirely sure what's different about them in the eyes of the 13yo but we're also not inclined to ask questions. He likes them and he wears them. He bikes 50 to 100+ miles at a shot and these shorts keep him comfortable during and after the ride. (For the longer rides I also insist that he use a chamois butter. He's not as happy about that as he is about the shorts but the combination is important on longer rides.);

Really nice bike shorts.
My son (4'11"; 80 lbs) wears Jr X Large Louis Garneau tri top. So I ordered Jr Large (after reading the reviews they seem run larger) and they are huge!

He will have to wait a few more years before he is big enough to wear them. They look like they are big enough for adults.;
