I always get the extra chunky. They're really comfortable they help to not focus pressure on that nerve that makes my hands numb and I feel like they even help a little with my painful joints. These quite simply are the only grips I use. They're easy to install by wetting everything in isopropyl alcohol and they just slip right on. I've been using these on all my bicycles for years and haven't had any wear out yet.;

These are by far the most comfortable grips for mountain biking however the downside is durability and installation but let me set all the reviewers straight!!! Installation can be done with rubbing alcohol and is sort of a one-shot deal and takes some skill and strength but if you don't get it right you DONT have to cut them off and buy new ones. I prefer to use the air compressor method just like the old school BMX grips. Just get the grip started onto the handlebar then wedge the tip of the air gun between the grip and the handlebar. The blast of air creates a gap around the bar and you are able to slip the grip over. It's easy to remove them the same way and to adjust if you don't get it quite right. As for the durability well they're foam. They pack in and deteriorate faster than rubber grips but if you ride a lot you know that contact points are key and having to replace them more often is really not a big deal.;

Great grips. Light comfortable fairly durable.
That being said make sure you watch the installation video!!! I didn’t for the first one and wound up giving myself a wonderful set of blisters as a result because I thought I could just muscle it on. The second one when on without a hitch because I watched the video and did it right…The second time.;

They aren’t the easiest to put on but if follow the directions on ESI’s website it’s not too bad.
They are by far the most comfortable grips I’ve used on my mountain bike.;
