Growing up I always had the retractable locks but never felt comfortable with them due to the ridiculously small wire that could probably be cut with small gardening shears. This is a very sturdy lock rolls up small enough to go in a jacket pocket and very easy to change the combo. As others have mentioned you aren’t going to foil somebody that really wants to steal your stuff but this lock will not only keep the casual thief away but likely have others looking for an easier target. The wire is small enough to go through bindings but large enough where you’d need full-size bolt cutters to get through it (which most people don’t carry on the ski slopes).;

cable is just the right length to lock my skis to the rack when I go in for coffee or lunch. Much nicer cable than some of the other combo locks which could easily be snapped apart by a strong thief.
It is not a self coiling cable which works better for me when threading it through the ski bindings.coils up nicely and fits well in a pocket. locks and unlocks easily and easy to change the combination.;
