When you order this, know that you are getting the following parts: the lever, and a spare shift cable. The lever at the hose junction has a little rubber cover but that's it. You will need to have the Shimano FLANGED M9 BH90 bolt to connect a barbed-and-olived BH90 hose to the shifter itself, along with the normal Shimano shift cable housing.

This flanged M9 BH90 bolt is for use with newer ST-Rxx20 (hydraulic-mechanical) Shimano levers like these -- they are NOT the M8 threaded bolts that were used in prior ST-RS series levers (Shimano's non-line specific debut road hydraulic shifters that used BH59 hoses). This proprietary bolt is necessary for these road hydro disc levers in order for no leaks to occur at the junction between the shifter and hose. Using the M8 bolt will strip the threads and also render the lever body useless.

If you're working on a deadline, please be aware that sourcing this M9 flanged bolt is going to be more or less an online endeavor as these are constantly back-ordered. I live in Los Angeles and even the most fully stocked / expensive / "professional" oriented bike shops didn't have this bolt.

I know Shimano is conservative in it's interchangability and that there are usually plenty of third party substitutes available that work, but use of this flanged bolt is one of the few moments when you MUST use this flanged bolt at it's junction -- Amazon does not have any 3rd party flanged bolts.

Don't forget about using the BH90 silver barb too at the shifter-hose junction -- the BH59 brass barb will lead to a leak.

This review applies to any Shimano ST-Rxx20 lever (4700 Tiagra,, 7000 105, 8000 Ultegra, 9100 Dura-Ace) that is ordered independently of the caliper.

Otherwise, this 2 speed shifter is great and was paired to an 11 speed Ultegra front derailleur running an 11 speed Dura-Ace chain and an 11 speed rear Campagnolo cassette, RD, and 11 speed Chorus right shifter with no issues. The 10 speed RIGHT lever (ST-R4720-R) is not going to work with an 11 speed RD/Cassette without weird hiccups.;
